I looked Kapu over, and laughed. "Stand back, pup" I rolled my eyes, took a cowering leap and reached the second branch, neatly landing with my tail erect. I kept my eyes on the nest, jumping and floating from branch to branch, foot hold to foot hold. When i was under the nest, i shimmied it with my tail and knocked it down out of the tree.

Kapu watched--extremely impressed. As soon as the nest hit the ground, Kapu took care of what was inside. Two small eagles.

"Kapu!" I screamed, scrambling down the tree. A huge, 2metre wing span male eagle was gliding down to my lover, screeching. A smaller but angrier female followed, flapping her wings madly. I waited, gulping. The female suddenly spotted me and pulled back, yelling at the male. The couple of birds floated gracefully in the air, glaring at me. I snarled and barked at them, one paw waving at them wildly. "Go away!" I screamed, reaching the bottom of the tree. The 2 eagglets were screeching for their family. They were bald, tiny and afraid ... Kapu was about to eat one. "No, wait. I used to feel like them as well" I said softly, picking the 2 baby birds up. I took them over to the tree, climbed up it and offered them to their mother. The female approached slowly and warily, her mate following. I held one out on my paw and the male came forward, sniffed it, and reluctantly gathered it up. The other baby went silent as the mother took it in her beak and flew back to her mate's side. "Sorry about your nest" I whispered. I retrieved the bedraggled nest and propped it up on a branch. I took a deep breath and left.

Kapu was surprised, but back away from the tiny creatures, watching the she-wolf ask for forgiveness and then the two eagles wondered off. "Aren't you miss mother nature?" He said with a smile, realizing that Rein was nothing like her mother.

"I knew how they felt" I said gruffly, head high, eyes straight ahead. I came to a stop at the edge of a cluster of cherry trees, swallowing my anger and pain.

"Why is that?" Kapu asked, coming up along side of her.

"No reason" I growled, stepping away and lying down, staring into space.

Kapu sat down next to her, "You sure?"

"Kapu!" Rein turned on him, snarling. "I said NO REASON!" I yelled.

Kapu growled, "Fine." He said coolly, turning and walking off. "Come talk to me once you've cooled off." he snapped. He hated being snarled and snapped at. He wasn't interested in having this kind of conversation. Especially with Rein.

I sat down, growling. Hours later, i stopped growling, snarled and lay on my side. I started crying in anger. "Stupid, stupid! I hate life!"

Kapu was too far away to hear her. But he too was angry. Why had Rein snapped at him like that? He was just being concerned. Perhaps she did not care about his feelings.

I lay there for ages, but finally got up. I howled, long and hard. Walking, then jogging. Running. A bay ... river, water! I lapped some water up and sighed angrily. Deer ... boar ... zebra ... RACOON! I pounced on the animal hiding behind a cluster of rocks, leaving the scents behind.

Kapu was napping under a big oak, enjoying the smell of the rain soaked earth.

I devoured the animal, ravenously hungry. I went back to the bay and swam around a bit, enjoying the water in my fur, the way it seemed to wash away my problems.

Kapu awoke and went in search of water, drinking from a rushing river.

I got out on the opposite side of the river, shook myself dry and padded back to the edge, letting my tail drip in.

I took my tail out of the water, shook it dry and sat down, staring at my reflection.

Kapu waited, knowing that if Rein wanted to speak--she would.
